Any casualties?

Postby DanAdamKOF on Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:32 pm

I'm sad to report that I have suffered one loss during Rogcon. My faithful Logitech X-230 speaker set's subwoofer has become damaged beyond repair. The tube inside, used to direct air out of the subwoofer, became dislodged at some point this weekend (probably on Sunday since it sounded fine before), and pretty much makes the subwoofer useless.

There's no way to get inside it to fix it, since the enclosure is held together with wood glue. Oh and despite Logitech's normally awesome replacement policy on mice and keyboards, etc, they won't replace my subwoofer. That pissed me off.

At least it had an extraordinary sendoff with the music games I had going. RIP subwoofer! You were a good friend I used about every day for the past 5 or so years. From the humble Windows 98 startup sound you'd play from my really old rig, to the thumping bassline of my techno-heavy song collection, to Half Life 2's shotgun (best sound effect ever!), you did it all with gusto.

I guess I'll use my humble headphones until I can affort a new speaker set :(.

So, am I alone in my grief, or is there anyone else?

terribly sorry to hear the loss. I know the feeling, but it goes with the territory of going to lans. But I do have to ask, why did you bring speakers? Were you the one with the beat-mania?

Hehe yeah. I hid the speakers at first but when the staff members didn't care, I moved them out from behind the monitor and turned them up.

I'm getting another DeathAdder if I get anything. I though about the Ikari Laser because I've heard some great things but idk.

Guess it's a good thing you only paid 20 bucks for it... See about getting it RMA'd and get another death adder.

At the con, my computer started intermittently losing power every once in a while, basically it'd just turn off completely then come right back up. I just installed another HDD, so I'm thinking I might need a more powerful PSU (500w supporting a C2D 2.66GHz, 8600GT, 4x SATA HDDs (1x 500GB, 2x 300GB, 1x 1TB), and 4GB RAM, but I'm not sure if that's the problem or not. It also happened this morning when I plugged in a thumb drive (wtf). Anyone here have any idea if my theory's correct or not?

Get a better PSU would be a step. Sounds like it's not getting enough power for everything in your system.

Yeah, I guess I'm going to run to Fry's after work and see what they've got. Might get one somewhere in the 650w range... Maybe with modular connections. That'd be cool.

Add 1 Motherboard to the Mix..

Good News though getting a combo deal NewEgg has.. Q6600 and a Asus Mobo..

Which means I have to get new Ram.. But! If G.Skill trades out my Ram (Crosses Fingers) I won't have to worry.. If not I'll have 4 gigs of DDR for sale. :-)

actually after being back for a while and getting a chance to use my computer, my computer randomly shuts off. I have yet to trace it, but its deff not software, i have since installed a new OS. No big deal, im sure its a loose cable somewhere or something, not worried about it.

My casualty turned out being a loose CPU heatsink. My idle temps on my QX6700 were 85c. So i removed it, cleaned it remounted it and they were back down to 40c and no more shutoffs. :)
